Postby yoshiheath » Sat Nov 03, 2007 2:51 am

i think there is a thread on this already but I am too lazy to look.

anyway, i think the air nomads will be reborn before then. it will take time but there may be at least 3 air nomads. lol. if that doesn't happen, aang can always communicatte with them in the spirit world. he cant teach them to bend since there is no bending in the spirit world but he can tell them what to do.

A Question

Postby ricefarmer » Sat Nov 03, 2007 2:52 am

It's a good question but I think that we all have to assume that at some point the airbenders have to be repopulated. For that to happen legitimatly aang will have to have children and start the repopulation of the air kingdom himself. So basically if Aang dies the entire airbending nation and airbending will both be anihilated so the only possible solution is for Aang to have children. Your choice as to which option the creators are most likely to pick :)

A Question

Well teaching yourself your element is one thing, but you can't just teach yourself an element that you don't naturally have the propensity to bend. So if aang had a child and the child taught himself that's one thing, but some random person from the earth kingdom can't go and teach himself air bending.

A Question

Postby hajtom » Sat Nov 03, 2007 7:21 am

Well I have a theory for this based on the things I know.

Well firstly I was reading the section on the main site about the Avatar gaming cards. The biography of the characters their indicate that the Airnomads did not necessarily got wiped out right away. There were even traitors that were spared by the firenation.

So my theory is that: NO the Airnomads were not extinct. Some of them have survived but gradually became less and less spiritual and thus the descendants of the Nomads during Sozin's time loss the ability to bend Air. Lets say now the descendants of the Airnomads are no longer airbenders. However they are still the people of the airnomads but they are no longer airbenders. So the Title of the show is not forfeited, is destroyed or is in contradiction to this. Aang is indeed the last Airbender but not necessarily the last of the Airnomad's race.

So all he has to do to rebuild the Air Nomad Society is to find those descendants of his friends a 100yrs ago and teach them Airbending. Or he could also have Kids. But about the Kids thing I think to be safe he will not end up with Katara but with a non-bender so things would not be in conflict with the theme to ensure that all his descendants will become Airbenders(some if not all) rather than mix breeds of Water-Airbenders which would destroy the concept of the show and the being of the Avatar and which would violate Canon of the show, I think.

Well thank you! Tophrules and another Karma if I can but not now cuz I can't.

Well I just read here and there and put things together. It just occurred to me that being Airnomads does not necessarily means Airbenders. Maybe in the past but technically the words differ in meaning.

A Question

Postby tophfan0110 » Sat Nov 03, 2007 1:21 pm

I'm with the whole Aang having kids theory. If Aang marries another bender then that would be a problem but if they had more than one kid then some could be Airbenders and some could be Water(orEarth/Fire...)benders.

yeah, youre not born a bender. its something you have to learn. i dont think it would matter if water/air races mated. they arent born with the ability to live in cold weather or isolate themselves from the rest of the world. its something they are taught. i mean sure the kid's parents would be 2 different benders but they could agree to teach him air bending over water so that the race will thrive.

A Question

Postby sozinho » Mon Nov 05, 2007 10:26 am

I think Aang having kids with another bender wouldn't be a problem; I figure since Earth is Air's opposite, Fire and Water must be it's compliments (they share certain characteristics); so if Aang had a child with someone from the Water Tribe or the Fire Nation, an Airbending-capable child would be more likely to be produced (as opposed to with someone from the Earth Kingdom).

Wouldn't it be funny if the Sandbenders turned out to be descendants of the Air Nomads? They escaped the wrath of the firenation by disguising their abilities as Earthbending.

If all else fails, there's always this:
Aang: Roku, as the last Airbender, if I die, how will the world come back into balance?
Roku: Yeah, the spirits and I have been talking about that; here's the plan: your friend there can bend metal, right? And we've been in talks with this guy we know in a swamp who bends plants. If Air turns out to be completely kaput, we'll just switch up the whole set-up so that the elements are Fire, Water, Earth, Metal, and Wood.
Aang: Five elements?! That's just stupid.
Roku: Yeah, the spirits and I think so too. Try not to die, a'ite?

A Question

Postby ricefarmer » Wed Nov 07, 2007 3:24 am

Mmk lets just throw this out there... No person besides the avatar can bend more then one element. Not even one with mixed parentage. It makes sence if we look at it in the simple way of combining powers but even if you just take it at a genetic standpoint the child would still be one or another. So there are one of three options in my opinion.

1. The air nomads are repopulated through Aangs decendents

2. If what hajtom pointed out is correct then the possibility of people of air nomadic lineage but non airbenders exist there could be the possibility of them rediscovering bending. (pokes hajtom with karma stick for a great find)

3. There is no repopulation.

A Question

Postby ricefarmer » Wed Nov 07, 2007 3:33 am

Well that's the only air temple Aang hasn't revisited so I guess there's a small chance, but the clear problem with that is that the Western Air Temple would be the one closest to the fire nation and therefore probobly the one most likely to have been hit first.

Postby rkm » Wed Nov 07, 2007 3:51 am

probably.....its just really hard for me to understand that every single air nomad(all of them were airbenders)died..........not everyone was at the temples. And after the first temple was hit the others ones should have fleed to somewhere else or maybe found refuge in a secret head quarters

A Question

Postby ricefarmer » Wed Nov 07, 2007 4:12 am

Well I think that we were led to believe that the attack was all simultanious and complete anihilation. On the other hand, hajtom says he found a place were it talked about airnation traders that got away. Now seeing as bending is based on spirituality, perhaps the act of turning in your fellow air nomads as an act bad enough to make their children unable to bend, thus perpetuating the Air nomad blood but not airbending, something that could possibly be reversed after the war is over.
