How do you imprison a firebender?

Postby snipersend » Thu Dec 20, 2007 10:01 am

my idea for a earth cage is probaly the best (sorry for bragging lol) guys i mean if you just put a whole cage around them it would not matter if they tried to melt it it would take days as long as it wasn't paper thin so you could just bend more earth around it then to give them food or water open up a little hole then put it in and close it and it is not really that much trouble to just imprison them they only need one earthbender as a watch and if they are especially troublesome they can earthbend their whole body to the wall to give them food

How do you imprison a firebender?

Postby winnkey » Thu Dec 20, 2007 10:14 am

i think you have looked over the very simple idea of just putting them in a jail cell. because if you look they locked Iroh up in a Jail Cell so that is telling me that that is the main type of prison cells they use. And if you think about it that would hold about all of the firebenders cept the leet ones. cause steel or iron what ever they use on there bars has to be heated to very high heats that would be unreachable for normal fire benders. so just lock them up in a normal jail cell.

and for all those people who will still complain about how iroh got out and crap like that. If the Fire nation use that kind of jail cell thinking that it would keep iroh. what happened must of never ever of happened before. cause the fire benders must know what they are able to do and did not think Iroh could do it. so nobody other than iroh has done that before.

Except Iroh had made no signs that could still Firebend. The jailers treated Iroh as if he were a broken old man who was incapable of acting normal, much less bend.

Yeah...and the jailers were competent Firebenders as well, so if a normal Firebender tried to escape, the jailers would be able to subdue them. (Iroh, obviously, is not a normal Firebender...) ;)

But if he keeps breathing small portions in for years he'll die
Well.. yeah. But I don't think that would matter in most cases. But okay, if you're looking for a durable prison, than obviously my idea isn't the best one :_)

just chain up their arms and legs. replace the chains every now and then so they don't burn through them with their breath.

submerging firebenders into water wouldn't help since they can evaporate the water due to their heated breath.
My idea is to earthbend a barrier around their necks than fill the containers that holds their body with a highly inflameble gas.
in this way they will never inhale the gasses and any firebending will result in an instant suicide ;D

How do you imprison a firebender?

Postby darkfire990 » Tue Jan 15, 2008 4:38 am

It's not that hard, when you think about it. Any normal prison should be able to keep them, so long as it's made strong enough to avoid melting. The worst they could do with firebending is kill the guards, which isn't likely to get them out of their cell unless they're within reach to take the keys. For that reason, you just need to make sure there's a good amount of surveillance and the proper precautions are taken (guards don't take the keys near them, etc.). Even Iroh was only able to escape a simple prison cell because he went Hulk Hogan on their asses.

Put them in a underground cell to block off the sun and just put them in rooms of the cave or whatever. chances are they can't melt half a mountain of rock. And you could bind their hands and feet so they can't do alot of their bending moves.

How do you imprison a firebender?

Postby zangi » Fri Jan 25, 2008 9:12 am

People forget here, these are jails. They normally have guards on patrol, who check cells and stuff... every now and then. And then is feeding time...

In the typical Earth/Water prisons, there was no such thing as privacy...
Same with Iroh's cell. No bed or any other comforts...
Prisoner's have zero rights.
So it would be hard to hide anything.

For firebenders, a simple steel cage like in Ba Sing Sei will work. Normal firebender blasts won't break it. And heating it would be equivalent to cooking yourself... even having earth around the cage except for the door would prevent them getting out the back. One way in, one way out. Make it easy for the guards to see all of the inside, just incase something is up too.
Iroh was likely just in a very low level prison cell due to him supposedly being broken...

I thought Iroh was put in a (slightly toned down for royalty) maximum security place with decent amounts of guards

ya i'm pretty sure Iroh's prison is the prison for high crimes.

i mean think about it, anyone else who had committed treason would probably be killed, but not wanting to make a matyr out of him Ozai just decides to put him in a high security cell to let him rot.

Low level prison cell, as in one of the more simple/basic cells, doesn't mean there would be a lack of guards.
Though.... Iroh seemed to have found a lot of time to buff up when you look at it....

No, there wasn't always one there. Else they would have noticed Iroh wasn't fat and making muscles.

How do you imprison a firebender?

Postby zangi » Fri Feb 08, 2008 3:42 pm

They committed genocide on the Air Nomads... wouldn't be surprised if they executed the water-benders and water tribe warriors they caught, too much trouble keeping the water-benders....

As for earth-benders and earth kingdom people, thats they place they are taking over. The question is, total brutality or not...

But, seeing as the Fire Nation wants to spread their glory to other places, doesn't seem right to bring a wave of absolute death and destruction to the people you are spreading glory to.
