Writer's Block

I've found that the RP section is a REALLY good practise for creative ideas...

Writer's Block

Postby airbenderautumn » Wed Apr 15, 2009 1:09 pm

I find something that helps with writers block is gathering up a really big list of adjectives, and from there making up a sentence about your favourite one such as: LIGHT-Glow,beam,brightness,luminosity,daylight,illumination,radiance,weightless,buoyant,fluffy,insubstatial,frothy,wispy ,feathery, flimsy, gentle, delicate, softnoiseless, featherlike, imperceptible, nimble, graceful, dainty, elegant, agile, bright, sunn y,sunlit, pale, pastel, subtle, fair, neutral, muted, carefree, happy, cheerful, untroubled, blithe, joyful, easy, manageable, undemandi ng,simple, effortless, entertaining, lightweight, fun, frivolous, amusing, playful
then pick one of them and make it into a sentence. My teacher told me that Adjectives are a major part of the story as they help the reader feel like they are really there and makes the story more easier and interesting to read :)

I get the best ideas right before I go to bed. I write down little bits and pieces and in the morning I make them into a story.

Also try youtubing and watching shows that turn your brain to mush. After doing really boring stuff, your brain will want to get some creative juices flowing.

When I get writers block, I go take my two dogs and cat for a walk. (Yes, my cat likes walks) I'll take a notebook with me and go walk to a nearby pet park. i let my babies off their leashes and watch them play while turning over the area where I'm stuck in my mind. I'll write down any ideas that come up and when I get back to my laptop, i'll open new documents and see where the idea takes me.

Another idea of mine That I used for NANOWRIMO is this one. I was working on Murder Hotel and I realized my main bad guy, the demon Black Chaos, didn't sound evil, nor convincing. I also just didn't have it in me to write that day. I opened a new document and began to rant. later, i went back and reread it. i realized that it was perfect for black chaos.

For me, writer's block often gets solved when I write something completely different from what I've been working on.

For example, I needed to take a break from my A:tLA fic at one point and wrote up a short story based on Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. xD

The brain is like a set of muscles - exercise the same ones too much and they get tired out, while the others remain undeveloped. Balance can be crucial to keeping the writing mind active, I think.
