Legal weed does not mean more people will get it.

In fact:
Before the Somewhere in the early 1900's (Between WWI and WWII IIRC), they banned all alcohol from the US. Although the consumption of alcohol decreased slightly, the amount of alcohol related violence increased a lot.

People who want weed will get it, legally or illegally. People who won't, will stay away from it.

So what you're saying is, this topic pertains to your decision.

People really have a wrong image when it comes to weed and the Netherlands - They hear Amsterdam, and all they imagine is 2 million people walking around like a bunch of hippies smoking their weed - wrong. There is weed consumption, but it's not in your face.
If we really should base our decision on weed....then we really shouldn't be moving to Texas, as there's a lot of drug production here too.

Bottom line -

We don't care about the weed.

Eh, I think people have put more into my argument than I intended. I will state the primary point again:

[Fact that my point was based in:] Some people may have a problem with legalized (or decriminalized) weed.
[Fact of my admitted ignorance:] I did not know if Kip and Artsy had thought about and talked about the weed issue.
[Concusion based off of established facts:] I brought it up so they could think about it.
[Response to my conclusion:] Kip has said that they don't care.

Therefore my argument has accomplished its sole task of raising the issue. Trying to say they should or shouldn't care was far beyond the scope of my intention.

Much of the important points on this matter have been raised and most of them answered.

Prime concerns:
1) The wee one
2) Immigration
3) Career opportunities

1) Knowing that the kiddo is only 4 helps quite a bit. That means a big move would not be as damaging psychologically. Also, I knew a kid at the day camp I worked at a few years ago who knew English, Spanish, and Hebrew at age 3- language is not a problem for him. This being the case, moving would not be a problem for Art.

2) I am not sure of the immigration procedures of either of the countries involved, but it sounds like you guys have looked into it and are ready and able to take care of them.

3) This is probably the kicker. Depending on what fields you both plan to go into, I would suggest both of you look into jobs on the both ends of the pond so you can have some opportunities lined up. It sounds like Arty would be better able to support your Amsterica family in the short run, but make sure to see how the job market is lined up for each of you in either country.

I can't promise to be an expert on the subject, but if I was in this situation, those would be what I would consider. Also, America has Sam Adams beer. My choice would be easy given that.

Overall, I think you guys will win out either way. Your choice is between two of the best countries to live in. As long as you guys are prepared for the consequences of living in either of them then everything should work out great.

Well I don't know either of you personally but from reading some of the posts, it sounds as though there are children involved. I moved around a lot growing up and I would just advise choosing what is best for the children. Obviously it has to fit yourselves too but the kids are very important. Hire some good movers too as that can make the transition a lot smoother for you. I know I have moved a lot.
