Dragons

I think that there are still dragons but perhaps not controlled by royalty but by things such as circuses. We clearly saw their interest in finding rare and exciting animals so I think there's a good chance that if nowhere else, there may be a few in various circuses. (I know that sounds kinda lame but as far as evidence to lead us to a conclusion it does fit the facts best)

Fang
Fang is Roku's friendly dragon and loyal steed. Roku found Fang when he was just a baby, not yet hatched from his egg. Fang's parents were gone, so Roku raised the young dragon as his own and they've been inseparable ever since.

Sozin's dragon (still nameless)
As vicious as his master, Sozin's dragon was able to fly over great distances at very fast speeds.

Just a theory that just pop inside my head. We know theres a place called dragon catacomb. Its a very restricted area with guards and defense. The walls inside are littered with Dragon skulls:

Many its last corpses of the last dragons...protected in a hidden underground basement along with Sozen's diary.

but still it's a wkd theory, if anyone is to know where a dragon still lives it would be iroh, i think he might have a dragon up his sleeve for upcoming episodes

Perhaps dragons are a rare race and Sozin might have bought his with his royal wealth and Roku may have been given Fang since he was the Avatar, someone supposed to be of high respect

Good point.
I believe dragons are extinct now, or at least in hiding.
Dragons give the Fire Nation the power of an Air Force, so why shouldn't they use them in the war?

Maybe there aren't much dragons because they don't reproduse much.
Or maybe there are enough in a part of the fire nation, but only the royal family may have one (explains sozins) or the fire nation avatar (Roku so he could travel the world)

Well,<slightly off topic> I think that Roku had a spiritual attachment to Fang, just as Aang has got to Appa. I also think that dragons are extinct. We would have seen more of them by now, used in battle, or as a pet.

If Roku found a lonely egg, without it's parents, dragons must be rare. I don't think it's normal for Dragons to leave their unhatched egg alone. So 1) something happened to them (dragon hunters maybe? bounty hunters? pollution?)
2) They just were extinct naturally or vanished

I think the dragons were like the firenations equivelent to the skybisons, and when Aang remembers there were quite a lot of them, but they are too thought to be extinct now.

why would the dragons vanish when their nation stands strong. i mean the fire nation would care for them and would not let them vanish.Loosing all of the dragons would be too silly from their side.
And as for having them in the circuses I think that those animals are too useful and string to give the last ones to the circuss for people's amusement while they can give great power to the army.

Never Ardiin, no one is owning the dragons. they are protecting them. And we can't be sure what gender they are.

They aren't owners. Like fjellet said, they're just their protector. Even so if you were the master, you wouldn't bow down to them when they appear.

I thought so because I didn't see 2 particular (wo)men that were close to the dragons or something, they're just protecting (2 of) the last dragons
If these are both male dragon I wonder how a female dragon looks like maybe a more friendly expression? When the blue one was judging Zuko I thought the dragon was freaky (they've got different eyes then the dragons shown in season 1 and 2)
Taunt you've got a point I wouldn't bow I would pet him/her.

That is something that we will probally discover later in the show.
-It could be that these are the last 2
- Iroh lied at that time and then there were maybe 10 still left and now they're all hiding
=The other 8 (this is an example maybe there were more or less) died in the meantime
=They gave birth to new dragons.
-Iroh stood face to face with the last 2 dragons.
= = a subtheory

well we dont have a clue for dragons. for all we know they can produce babies by them selves making them have no gender.

so we can never be to sure talking about something like this when we know no facts.

(this post went under a lot of careful thinking to make sure it would be safe for familys if get catch my drift.)
