Earth bending in Fire?

Postby rotiku » Thu Jan 03, 2008 7:50 am

Once again I have searched through whatever knowledge I have to try and create a way for one type of bender to manipulate their own bending to imitate another type of bending.
This one was slightly tricky, and might need some tweaking.

Fire Bending cannot control much else other than Fire, Lightning, and in the rare occasion, Lava. Its pretty hard to imitate Earth bending with only that, but I have found a way! It is only for master Fire benders who can control Lava (Such as Roku). They start by making a hallow ball of lava and then super cooling it (ie. Dump it inwater). Make a hole in the ball and then bring it back into the lava. Throw it in and make sure it fills with the lava. Then viola, the Fire bender can control the lava inside the ball so it looks as it he/she is an Earth bender. The lava inside would need to be in constant movement to prevent it from hardening, and the hole may or may not need to be open to allow oxygen to come in.

This would be pretty useless since it takes a while, but it would be a form of showing off! Anyone care to argue with my theroy?

yes, with a hole in the rock, wouldn't the lava just come out of the rock when he tries to bend it? I have a quicker idea, just take the lava, dip in water for a couple of seconds, but take it out before the lava at the center of the ball cools, and why would it need oxygen? fire needs oxygen, but not lava. and then just bend the center lava to make it looks like your bending earth.

Not if you hold it in with the bending. Remember what I said, only master Fire benders would be capable of this.

Check out my other topics about the other links in bending. They are located in the other three bending boards.

the yes but you wouldn't have to hold it in if the ENTIRE OUTSIDE WAS ROCK

Earth bending in Fire?

Postby rotiku » Thu Jan 03, 2008 8:15 am

Yes you would. Fire needs Oxygen to survive (Which is ironic in Avatar since the Fire nation killed the Air nomads). I am not sure about lava, but it too may need oxygen to survive, therefore a hole in the rock may be nessicary. The hole probably wouldnt have to be large.
And yes, most volcanoes have some sort of air flow, therefore they can get air underground.

Earth bending in Fire?

Firstly, allow me to correct your geology and physical science:

Lava is molten rock at the earth's surface and magma below the lithosphere. Lava is earth, plan and simple. If you heat metal, does it not turn orange? Just because something glows a certain colour does not mean it is fire.

Secondly, there is no 'air flow' beneath the earth's surface. Look in a proper geology text book. Water is the only thing being dragged below and that is because of subduction zones (which is how we get geysers).

As far as fire surviving on oxygen, keep in mind that fire also needs an organic carbon source to keep going. Yes, firebenders can create fire, but humans are carbon-based lifeforms from which the fire can feed. Overall, fires require heat, oxygen, fuel, and a chain reaction. Lava is not an organic carbon source, its composition is based on its silicon content. And by sealing fire in a rock, you will suffocate it with CO2 and it will not continue to burn.

And no, master firebenders would not be able to throw a ball of lava. Roku was an avatar and he was bending the earth, not fire. Lava is only associated with fire because fires start when an inflammable object gets excessively heated.

Anyway, that's real science for you.

Good point Carly, I thoughtof that to, we haven't seen firebenders bending lava yet and nor will we ever see them as I suppose.Roku could bend lava just because he was the avatar. I think it's the same with bending clouds:Aang couldn't bend clouds while he couldn't waterbend but he did it with Katara's help, no doubt that Katara wouldn't be able to do it alone either, so they needed both bendings there and I think Roku needed earth and fire to bend lava.

Yeah I forgot about that part... (Oops...) So you would need Earth bending anyway huh?
Remember though, when a person is tired they dont function quite as well. Thats also science for you.
I really feel like an idiot... Time to go check that last topic.

Well, air can push clouds around so regardless of knowing how to waterbend, technically Aang could use air bending to move the clouds. That is, afterall, part of how they move anyway (the other part is the earth's rotation, I think--I'm not meteorologist).

But getting back to earth/fire...

As the avatar, Roku might be able to do both earth and fire bending at the same time, but they are such different elements that it seems unnecessary. Unless the earthbender was bending a large chunk of earth that had something attached to it which was burning, it still would not be fire bending.

i said that point on the other thread how firebenders can control lava as fire is inside the rock........

that would take a lot of time to bend rock like that. it's a little too complicated to worry about.

It's a complicated theory and I would've never thought of that it'll probally work (if the bender is strong enough to keep the heavy rock up)
I'll give you karma;)

it would probably work, but what would be the point. it would take so long to do it wouldn't help in battle

Take long? If you dip it in water it doesn't take that much time.
And this isn't meant for battle like the first post says: Imitating another kind of bender.

Correction: Lava does not -- in fact -- need oxygen to exist, it merely needs to stay hot. Oxygen is only required to fuel combustion, AKA fire. Lava is not actually fire, just extremely hot rock. In theory, a firebender could just keep the lava moving enough to keep it heating itself (kinda like the earth's core, ya know? no oxygen down there for your information). That being said, I'm fairly sure the entire argument is null and void since I don't believe a firebender can manipulate lava since, as I said, it's hot earth, not fire. The only time we've seen lava being manipulated was by the avatar, who is capable of earth bending. I may be wrong, but it makes sense if you think about it.

maybe the avatar can only bend lava. but maybe the very best masters would be able to bend lava as well.

firebenders can bend lava/magma, look at the avatar short: bending battle (or something like that) zuko could bend lava and he's a firebender

Earth bending in Fire?

Postby Kuku » Mon Jan 28, 2008 6:13 pm

hmmm okay...the way I see it, the elements ARE ALL CONNECTED (just like Iroh said once)

In "the Fortune Teller" both Katara and Aang could bend the clouds cuz of water and air so I don't see why now you can't find earth in fire or whatever. In "The Drill" both Katara and Toph were bending the same nasty mud that was everywhere cuz it's both water and earth.

It's all the same like lava, mist, mud, dust, smoke, steam...all 2 elements. XD

i do believe that somehow all the benders will become one because they will realize just like iroh said that everything is connected.

Most firebenders cant even control lava though. I think its a very very high level technique, like lightning

That theory sounds like it could work rotika. good find.
Maybe even earthbenders could create fire. That whole "rubbing two rocks together" theory which would eventually make a spark. I know it's usually two sticks but I've heard of doing that with two rocks.

If you make a ball of earth with lava in it then the rock will sufficate it. But if you put to much lava the rock will burn. And even if you get it just right the rock will be to heavy with such little lava.

The only ones that can bend lava are Avatars. Lava is molten earth, therefore the Avatar can simultaneously bend the earth and fire.

Very creative, but I'm inclined to say no. I think that is WAY too complex, and a little far fetched.

Earthbenders can *technically* bend fire though. Sozin's Comet, episode 1: When they're training. Just soak boulders in tar, then hold over fire. :P

Also, waterbenders can bend fire. Dip wine/alchohol in fire, then waterbend
