If paramount really wants to make some money...

They should break each book up into two movies. Each season has some kind of climax in the middle as well as at the end...and it only makes sense in order to adapt a series with so many characters and storylines. Also they could make some serious bank. avatar fans I'm sure would put up the money to see all six movies. Paramount needs to get it together and hire a more competent director, apologize to the world and more importantly to the fans for this horendous failure with the first movie, and start fresh. The first one needs to be remade. I'm sorry but half the movie just looks like M.Night just took screen shots from episodes and posed the actors in an attempt to appease fans and then totally screwed up the rest of the movie. I read an interview with M. Night and he said the reason he changed pronunciations of names was to help "ground it into reality" and the real world more but this series is supposed to take place in a completely diffierent universe than our own right??? I mean do we have a platapus bear running around out there...did we find the fossils? So why would it need to be ground into our reality? It shouldn't take and earth bender 7 moves in order to move a rock and am I crazy or could all firebenders just shoot fire out of their hands rather than from an existing source? This isn't taking place in our universe so M.Night can take the reality of our physics and shove them somewhere unpleasant.I'm just saying. I understand it's supposed to be an adaptation but I mean he took something whimsical and made it way too serious in order to relate the more adult concepts of the show to a more adult audience, but in the process removed all the love and joy. The show does touch on some very adult subjects of honor, betrayal, and redemption however, this is a children's show and the elements of sillyness mixed with the seriousness is what made it great. The series was amazing! There were some episodes that literally took my breath away because it's just such a wonderful show. Honestly and truly. Paramount owes us all a huge apology, as well as, the courtesy of doing this show justice. Get an amazing director, break it up into six movies and do the thing right ok paramount? It would be a boost for the economy. Jobs created, money made, and happy fans. Just do the right thing ok?

No, I disagree for personal reasons. Avatar =/= HP. I don't want to see 6 different movies. I want to see 3 well-done movies, because we had 3 well-done seasons. While M. Night didn't really capture the essence of Season 1, I wouldn't want to see "Season 1, Part 1." That would make everything feel like it was taking too long for me, especially with the change in the timeline to give some maturity to the characters.

Actually, I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of M. Night's vision. Apologizing to the world would only work if they decided to kill the live action idea entirely, cause there's no reason (other than a bunch of whiny fans) to take M. Night off the case.

After all, according to the stats I've seen, The Last Airbender has made more than enough money to support the budget for the sequel, which in Hollywood terms means that the movie was a success and the sequel is a go.

I agree there was quite a bit of disappointment to the film, but I'm actually one of the few who are overall fairly satisfied with the film and look forward to seeing what M Night has in mind for Book 2: Earth.

I've heard all kinds of complaints about the name changes. I've never felt that the changes were that significant. What does it matter? I feel this has always been a rather nit-picky point which never had much more to back it up than that it was annoying to fans. Sure, it's plenty annoying, but it's no reason I see to condemn the movie as a whole.

Actually, rewatching clips of that scene, I get the impression that there may be some misunderstanding there.

This video sums up my perception of that infamous scene. I feel M. Night is getting the short end of the stick here. After all, notice how QUICKLY the earthbender can raise a TON more rock as a reflexive action to defend himself. Those six Earthbenders weren't moving the rock. It just looked like it because the camera had a bad angle. Granted, M. Night should have made it more clear that only the one was moving the rock, but he didn't actually portray them as needing six men moving for a whole second to lift so small a stone. Those six men were demonstrating their unity and training, not Earthbending.

Actually, that was a change which I rather enjoyed after thinking about it. I almost wish that Mike and Bryan had done that from the beginning. It would have made Firebending much cooler in that Firebenders would have had to be much more clever about how they did things. More importantly, it would have made the whole Sozin's Comet thing make more sense to me.

On a side note, Iroh being one of the few to master firebending your own chi = badass mfer awesomesauce epic win, even if it was totally cheesy when Zhao and his men told us what he was doing when it happened.

The change in Firebending is half the reason I actually look forward to seeing the rest of his vision for ATLA.

Surely not all of the love and joy. It only presented the same love and joy in a format we were not expecting, so it was harder to see. In short, it was not as eloquent as the original format, but I don't think it was an ultimate failure.

If anything, it was simply way, way, way too far edited and broken up. They needed to take more time for the in between stuff and less for the beginning and end. I agree, more screen time would be a good thing, but six movies for three books? Eh, I would feel like I was running the Avatarded gauntlet rather than experiencing the ATLA dream. I would do it, but I don't think I would enjoy it as much as if they managed to portray the three books in three movies.

I agree that part of the magnificence of the show was it's flawless presentation of the story in a form friendly and compatible with virtually all ages. That was not, however, the core achievement, rather the icing on the cake, so to speak. The core achievement was the story itself, which is still, for the most part, told in the movie.

Actually, Paramount doesn't owe us anything. It's their show, their story, their property. They can do whatever the hell they want with it and we don't have the right to tell them otherwise (except in the sense that we have freedom of speech, but that doesn't mean they have to listen to us).

Technically, M. Night is an amazing director, though he might not have been the best choice. I'm not disagreeing with you so much as pointing out that simply picking an amazing director will not necessarily help the situation. In fact, it might worsen it since M. Night at least has the advantage that his kids are fans like we are. Another director, no matter how amazing, may not have that advantage.

I must say that I rather despise your appeal to the economy boost. The fact of the matter is that if M. Night directs another movie that just as many jobs will be made as if another director made the movie. You may argue that M. Night will only make a total of three movies while another director might make six, but first you have to find a director able and willing to commit to doing such a thing and also, Paramount would have to cut their losses on TLA and start from scratch.

Paramount is not going to cut their losses on a movie which had a net gain sufficient to fund a sequel. They have no rational reason to do so.

M. Night will create jobs and earn money, even if he doesn't please the fans. But Paramount doesn't care about pleasing fans so long as money is made. Money was made on TLA, so they will hire M. Night to do the sequel.
